FAQ

EXKi already launched its ReThink plan in 2007 to reduce its environmental impact and waste. In 2020, we switched to FSC cardboard containers reducing our plastic consumption by 83%. By testing reusable packaging, we now aim to go a step closer to a circular approach.

We chose SAN, short for styrene acrylonitrile resin. This is an innovative plastic that offers the best compromise between recyclability, strength, lightness and transparency. This keeps your EXKi dishes in optimal conditions, while offering a quality solution that you can also reuse at home or on the road.

We offer two reusable containers (140 and 330 ml) for our entire range of small salads, as well as for a selection of desserts and breakfast items. The Brussels restaurants located on Place du Luxembourg and Rue des Tongres are the first to test this innovative solution.

The containers are produced in France, so the environmental impact related to their purchase and transport is limited.

The containers are washable about 100 times. We have conducted industrial tests to guarantee their integrity and quality over time.

Yes, for sure. The containers are washed according to a strict sanitary protocol. This includes pre-washing in the restaurants and industrial washing with specialised products and equipment. The containers are checked and protected with film before reuse.

The 330 ml container is microwave resistant (800 W) for 8 minutes. Neither of the two tested containers is oven resistant.

Your commitment to the planet is of great value! The deposit encourages our customers to bring back the reusable containers to the restaurant so that they can be reused in our circular approach. However, we did not want the deposit amount to scare away our customers (even if they get a refund when they bring back the container). We have therefore decided to ask a deposit of 50 cents per container, big or small.

You can drop off the reusable containers in either one of our two Brussels pilot restaurants: Place du Luxembourg/Luxemburgplein 7 or Rue des Tongres/Tongerenstraat 26. Other EXKi restaurants cannot accept your reusable containers for the moment.

A circular approach makes it possible to further reduce the waste from our activities. After all, the best waste is the waste we don't produce! In addition, the management and treatment of these reusable containers does not require additional transportation. During this test phase, we will also thoroughly assess the ecological footprint of the reusable containers, but also their CO2 production and water use.
